Hey Honey's Author

Paula Carr — The Heart Behind Hey Honey

Paula Carr grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, where her family dog was always part of the fun. Long walks, snowy playdays, and backyard games made dogs an inseparable part of her happiest memories.

Paula never imagined she would become a children’s book author—especially someone writing about childhood adventures without having children of her own. But life has a way of choosing its storytellers.

Paula’s Loving Journey — A New Friend, A New Life

Her journey began the day Honey, a gentle, slow-moving bulldog with a showstopper personality, came into her life in 2010. From that moment, everything changed.

Honey wasn’t always Honey. She began life as “Mocha,” but when her first family had to move, they could no longer keep her. Around the same time, Paula was searching for a dog who needed a loving home. Destiny brought them together, and with one look, Paula knew: “You look like a Honey.” That moment was the start of a lifelong bond filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable adventures.

Honey was the kind of dog strangers stopped to photograph. She was patient, calm, and open-hearted—welcoming every hand, every smile, every moment of affection. Paula saw in her not just a companion, but a character overflowing with possibility.

Soon, Honey began doing photo shoots, completed professional training, and became a certified PALS therapy dog. With each experience, Paula realized: these aren’t just memories—they’re stories children need.

A Love That Lives Beyond Goodbye

Nothing prepared Paula for the day she lost Honey. Waking up to find her gone was a heartbreak beyond words. The grief stayed for years—quiet, heavy, and constant.

But Honey had filled Paula’s world with too many beautiful memories to ever truly disappear. She was joy. She was healing. She was the reason Paula finally opened her heart again… four years later.

Even now, when life feels overwhelming, Paula reaches for Honey’s photo books—the stories captured in quiet moments—and smiles. Honey’s presence has never left. Instead, it turned into a legacy. And that legacy became Hey Honey.
